I HAVE FINALLY FINISHED ALL 100 CARDS FROM SERIES 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE MADE TONS OF CHANGES TO EXISTING CARDS, PLUS 35 NEW ONES!
With all of the cards in the first Series being done, the development of the game is going to shift drastically. Rather than most of my development going to making new cards, the main focus will be playing the game with many decks and people to try to see if there are any cards that need balancing.
If you are ever interested in playtesting, please join the Discord server and I can set you up with a copy of Tabletop Simulator. The game runs on all OSes and is not intensive, so don't worry about having a computer too underpowered to play the game. I'll be trying to get as many different experiences as possible, so don't be afraid to ask!
Since the game needs to be played so often, the old (and debatably ugly) look of the previous cards needed to be updated. More people are going to be seeing the card game than ever, and I want to leave a good first impression on all the people playing it.
Now, you might be thinking... What what wrong with the old layout? Well, stick around to read the many changes that were made to the cards. The new layout is supposed to be the final layout all the way to manufacturing, so I wanted to make sure that the cards were as perfect as can be.
There are many changes and additions to the cards. Most importantly, there is a new symbol for damage. If an attack has a tilde (~) at the end of it, that means that attack deals that damage to the entire enemy team.
Furthermore for gameplay changes, some cards have a new Sacrifice condition: Sacrifice Mana to place. This is quite self explanatory, and was implemented as a bit of a balancing measure to prevent certain cards from completely rolling games.
Now, moving on to more superficial changes. The card size has been changed to properly fit a standard card. This change was made to make manufacturing cheaper and easier in the future. The card in general has been cleaned up, too, making it easier to read and hopefully look a bit sleeker. Also, new information has been added to the bottom of the card.
The card number is on the bottom left, and contains two pieces of information: the Global card ID on the left, and the Series card ID on the right. This information is used to differentiate cards that have the same name or end up getting multiple releases.
On the bottom right is the Character and Artist information. On the left, the owner of the Character featured on the card is credited. On the right, the artist of the art featured on the card is credited. This is just to give more back to the wonderful community of people involved in the card game!
From here on out, development on new cards will be minimal. The focus now will be balancing the existing cards and making the first series the best it can be. Getting art for each card will also become a large focus, as the game cannot go into manufacturing unless each card has a piece of art.
Ideally, I'd like to release the physical card game with a Community Pack of 20 cards. I'm urging anyone who is interested in making cards, please send them in! I love seeing the existing cards, and am extremely eager to include them in a Community Pack.
Figuring out manufacturing is also set to be quite the challenge. There are a lot of things that need to go right, so I'm going to be get every last detail of manufacturing squared away before showing anything physical off. I feel that the game can grow on its own perfectly fine while in Tabletop Simulator, and that may even be beneficial for its growth.
Advertising for the game is also something I've been considering recently. I'm currently working on a YouTube video about TCG's, and of course I mention my card game in this video. This project is definitely reaching a new horizon, and this video is kinda a love letter to this game and TCG's in general. These games have always been a fixation of mine and even if it's not the greatest thing in the world, I'm extremely proud and passionate about the game I've made.
