There's a lot of new stuff this newsletter! From animated holo to rebalancing, there are a lot more changes than completely new creations!
The first animated holographic card was added to Tabletop Simulator! Here's a clip I took of it playing in game:
Pretty cool, huh? Now, it has changed a little bit since this clip was taken, but I'll keep that hidden away until next newsletter.
Another huge change that has been made to the game is a rebalance to almost every single card currently in the game. Many cards have been given damage spread, mana sacrifice, or stats changes to try and make it easier to come back from losing the first card. It also might give some more attention se to some of the lesser-used cards, such as Wizard Crumb (who now does damage to all opponents instead of just one).
The final part of the Base Set is complete, bringing Set 1 to 100 cards! After they all have a card face, the game will technically be """Complete.""" Now, that doesn't mean that it's ready to publish — it needs art, testing, and a lot of polish — but all of the content in the first pack exists. Consider it the game coming out of Alpha testing and into Beta testing!
I'm STILL mulling over how I want to pay the artists, but I'm definitely getting closer to reaching a conclusion. I've been asking as many artists as I can, trying to see what everyone would be comfortable with. It's tough balancing paying the artists what they deserve, making a profit, AND keeping the product cheap!
Because of the rebalances, new cards, and manufacturing details, I need to COMPLETELY REDO ALL THE GRAPHICS FOR EVERY CARD. I've already started on this, luckily. There's a new card layout that is a bit more polished (and actually playing card shaped) which is posted on the website. Hopefully the file being public makes it easier for people to create art and custom cards!
Although I know there's still a long, LONG ways to go before this becomes a completed project, I've been so focused on doing all the busywork of rebalancing and remaking all the cards that I haven't really been able to focus on what my next step is. It's definitely going to involve a lot of playtesting, advertising, and WORK, WORK, WORK!
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PLAYING THE CARD GAME! MESSAGE ME ON DISCORD! I WILL PROBABLY BUY TABLETOP SIM FOR YOU.
Here are some random changes that I think are cool:
The Tabletop Sim game is much more refined (there's snapping now!)
The new card layout contains all the info, including artist, character owner, card number, and rarity.
Both the website and the Tabletop Sim game have rules now.
Besides all that, the only thing I really want to talk about is a call to action. If you guys want to make a card for the game, PLEASE do not feel afraid! I would love to have a community pack release alongside the Base Set of the game.
Like usual, I want to thank you all for caring so much about the card game. This is such a fun project and something I've been wanting to do a long time, and it means a lot that people are taking so much interest in it! I love the community and hope it thrives more and more!
